Compass Carpet Repair
Berber carpet repair is a speciality within a speciality. Although you may believe that you have a Berber carpet, it’s more likely that your carpet is not Berber carpet at all. It’s some variation of a looped carpet that runs in tight rows.
Authentic Berber carpet comes from North Africa and the Sahara and is very expensive. Your carpet probably comes from a mill in Georgia. That all being true, the common way to refer to looped carpet that runs in rows is to call it a Berber, so I’ll play along and call it Berber carpet also. Just know, there’s a little part of me deep inside that has my face in my hand while rolling my eyes and calling your polyester carpet from Georgia a Berber.
Do you need a patch in a Berber carpet?
If you are needing a patch in a Berber carpet, you may see the cross seams more than the seams that run along the grain. Learn more about carpet patching on my carpet patching page.
Do you have a run in your Berber carpet? Is it a mess? Does it look like something that a Bald eagle would use to build a nest?
If you just answered, “yes,” you and your carpet have an issue. Lucky for you the answer that you’re looking for is also Yes! I can fix it.
Patching a Berber carpet
If it’s just one row, I may or may not knit it right back together. On the other hand, I may cut that row off all the way down your carpet seam and completely start over with the seam by sealing it and putting it back together properly. If it’s two or more rows, I’m likely going to want to patch it.
Do you have the extra carpet needed to do the patch? If yes, great! if no, fear not, I can pull some carpet out of your closet or from under a piece of furniture. If you don’t have any extra carpet, I have a super-secret way to produce some.
Do you want to know my secret?
I will un-tack your carpet along an edge, stretch the living daylights out of it, cut off the extra, re-tack the carpet back down, tuck it into place and nobody will ever be with wiser. I’ll use the extra carpet I have created to perform your carpet patch. I don’t know anyone else that does this. Lucky you! I just saved you a whole lotta dough.
Did your original carpet installer seal the seams of your Berber carpet?
All Berber seams must be sealed. If your original installer didn’t properly seal your carpet, it’s going to unravel. I can help you stop the problem but chances are, your Berber carpet seams will continue to unravel in other places. Call me when you need me to come back. I can help you best and most inexpensively if we catch it quickly.
Is your Berber carpet loose and rippled?
If you want to know more about stretching, go to a Yoga class. If you want to learn how I can help you and your Berber carpet by re-stretching it, check out the carpet stretching section.
